The Tapestry

One of the things that I cherish is a hand made western Arizona looking rug thing that my Mom weaved in her last years on earth. It hangs on my wall, reminds me of her and always brings a warm feeling to my heart. It represents also what she passed on to me, which is a strong sense of family and fellowship with other people, especially people in need. She was like that, always reaching out to others.

You could say her life became a tapestry, with her strong Italian Catholic roots weaving within her life strands of people seeking someone to love and accept them. She ran into the Reverand Jesse Jackson on an elevator one day and gave him a lecture on turning his words into action. She cared so deeply about her neighbors that at 73 she was elected to be the spokesman for all the residents to the landlord.

In these last few years, we have tried to also weave threads of family, acceptance, love and healing within Campus Church with our ATB ministry. In the video shown at church and available on our newly redecorated website at www.acrossthebridge.weebly.com you see the results of allowing the Lord to lead us into the design of this tapestry, and to just be His hands to nurture it. As Jim says in the opening statement, we are Jesus at work. And, I think my mom would be quite happy about it as well.

In the next six weeks, we are making a concentrated effort to open our doors to folks who may not understand that we are way more than just a place to heal addiction, We are family, we are a fellowship of all kinds of different folks who make it a point to serve the Lord. Yesterday I learned about two significant behind the scenes stories that we will share in the coming weeks of our folks who went way beyond the call of duty to serve. That is what the Lord would have us do, we put words of faith into action.

Here are our present plans:

.......This coming Sunday we will have an "Open House" class to talk about who we are, what we do and how we do it. Join us in class between 10-11AM.
.......Following that will be a new series entitled "12 in 5: 12 Steps in 5 Weeks" designed to be educational and informative as to how the Steps work in conjunction with scripture and God's Holy Spirit. All are welcome.
.......Our website is being revamped to be more user friendly and informative. Thank you Kim!

ATB is a place of honesty, a place where we bond as family, a place where transformation of God's power can be seen every day, not just in our meetings and class. Our tapestry is not ready to hang on a wall yet because we are still a work in process with many threads yet to be woven. You will find that you become not just someone sitting in chair to listen, you will thrive on reaching out to your fellow man/woman as you are empowered by the desire to serve others as God has placed it in your heart also.

We invite everyone to come join in our humble but honorable attempt to serve the Lord as he served us. Be a part of this beautiful tapestry of family!

Glenn, you always know just what to say. Thanks for always being such an encourager. By the way, I think your mother and I would have been best friends!
God bless you,
Marsy (and John) Thomas
